Wahl der österreichischen Mitglieder des Europäischen Parlaments (Europaparlamentswahl)

Mit BGBl II Nr. 72/2024 hat die Bundesregierung gemäß § 2 Europawahlordnung am 7.3.2024 die Wahl der österreichischen Mitglieder des Europäischen Parlaments ausgeschrieben.

Wahltag: 09. Juni 2024
Stichtag: 26. März 2023
Wahlzeit: 7 bis 16 Uhr

Wer ist in der Stadt Salzburg berechtigt, an der Europawahl am 09. Juni 2024 teilzunehmen?

Männer und Frauen, die am Stichtag 

• die österreichische Staatsangehörigkeit besitzen oder Staatsbürger anderer Mitgliedsstaaten der Europäischen Union sind und bis 26.3.2024 einen Antrag auf Aufnahme in die Unionsbürger-Wählerevidenz gestellt haben,
• vom Wahlrecht nicht ausgeschlossen sind,
• ihren Hauptwohnsitz in der Stadt Salzburg haben und
• am 09.06.2024 das 16. Lebensjahr vollendet haben.

Wie kann ich als EU-Bürger:in an der Wahl teilnehmen?

Unionsbürgerinnen und Unionsbürger, die nicht die österreichische Staatsbürgerschaft besitzen, aber ihren Hauptwohnsitz in Österreich haben, können bei der Europawahl die österreichischen Mitglieder des Europäischen Parlaments wählen. Dafür muss ein Antrag auf Aufnahme in die Europa-Wählerevidenz bei der Hauptwohnsitzgemeinde in Österreich gestellt werden. Das ist noch bis zum Stichtag der Europawahl, dem 26. März 2024, möglich.

Die Antragstellung ist wie folgt möglich:
Übermittlung des Formulars (s. unten) und eines gültigen Identitätsnachweises (z. B. Reisepass, Personalausweis, Führerschein) an wahlamt@stadt-salzburg.at oder persönlich unter Mitnahme eines Identitätsnachweises im Meldeservice, Saint-Julien-Straße 20 (Kieselgebäude), 4. Stock.

Wie kann ich als Auslandsösterreicher:in an der Wahl teilnehmen?

Österreichische Staatsangehörige mit Hauptwohnsitz im Ausland, die an der Europawahl teilnehmen wollen, können bis 25. April 2024 eine Aufnahme in die Europa-Wählerevidenz beantragen. Zuständig für den Antrag ist die Gemeinde, zu der ein rechtlicher Anknüpfungspunkt besteht (beispielsweise die Gemeinde des früheren Hauptwohnsitzes).

Wo und wann kann man eine Unterstützungserklärung für eine wahlwerbende Partei unterzeichnen?

• Ab dem 26.3.2024 im Kieselgebäude, Einwohner- und Standesamt, Saint-Julien-Straße 20, 4. Stock, Zimmer 401 jeweils Montag bis Donnerstag 7.30 bis 16 und jeweils Freitag von 7.30 bis 13 Uhr
• Letztmöglicher Tag für die Bestätigung von Unterstützungserklärungen ist Freitag, 26.04.2024.

Wie kann man eine wahlwerbende Partei unterstützen?

Der Wahlvorschlag muss von wenigstens drei Abgeordneten zum Nationalrat oder wenigstens einem bei der letzten Wahl zum Europäischen Parlament gewählten Mitglied unterschrieben oder von 2.600 Personen, die am Stichtag in der Europa-Wählerevidenz eingetragen und wahlberechtigt waren, unterstützt sein.

Die Unterstützungserklärung hat die Bestätigung der Gemeinde zu enthalten, dass die in der Erklärung genannte Person am Stichtag in der Europa-Wählerevidenz eingetragen und wahlberechtigt war. Diese Bestätigung ist von der Gemeinde nur dann zu erteilen, wenn die in der Erklärung genannte Person vor der zur Führung der Europa-Wählerevidenz zuständigen Gemeindebehörde persönlich erscheint, ihre Identität durch ein mit Lichtbild ausgestattetes Identitätsdokument (z. B. Personalausweis, Reisepass, Führerschein) nachgewiesen hat, die Unterstützungserklärung die Angaben über Vornamen, Familiennamen, Geburtsdatum und Wohnort sowie die Namen der zu unterstützenden wahlwerbenden Partei enthält und die eigenhändige Unterschrift der in der Unterstützungserklärung genannten Person vor der Gemeindebehörde geleistet wurde.

Wann liegt das Wählerverzeichnis auf und wann kann man einen Berichtigungsantrag einbringen?

Das Wählerverzeichnis für die Europaparlamentswahl liegt am

• Freitag, 19.4.2024 von 8 bis 16 Uhr
• Samstag, 20.4.2024 von 8 bis 12 Uhr
• Sonntag, 21.4.2024 von 8 bis 12 Uhr
• Montag, 22.4.2024 von 8 bis 16 Uhr
• Dienstag, 23.4.2024 von 8 bis 16 Uhr
• Mittwoch, 24.4.2024 von 8 bis 16 Uhr
• Donnerstag, 25.4.2024 von 8 bis 16 Uhr

im Einwohner- und Standesamt, Saint-Julien-Straße 20 (Kieselgebäude), 4. Stock, Zimmer 455 auf. In das Wählerverzeichnis kann jedermann in der dafür vorgesehenen Einsichtsfrist Einsicht nehmen.

Innerhalb des Einsichtszeitraums kann jeder in das Wählerverzeichnis Einsicht nehmen. Darüber hinaus kann jedermann innerhalb des Einsichtszeitraumes im Internet, nachdem er sich mittels qualifizierter elektronischer Signatur identifiziert hat, im Weg der Datenverarbeitung ZeWaeR überprüfen, ob er in das Wählerverzeichnis der Stadt Salzburg eingetragen ist.

Innerhalb des Einsichtszeitraums kann jeder Unionsbürger unter Angabe seines Namens und seiner Wohnadresse gegen das Wählerverzeichnis schriftlich oder mündlich einen Berichtigungsantrag stellen. Der Antragsteller kann die Aufnahme eines Wahlberechtigten in das Wählerverzeichnis oder die Streichung eines nicht Wahlberechtigten aus dem Wählerverzeichnis verlangen.

Who can you vote for?
You can vote for the members to the European Parliament. Members belong to certain parties. 

Who is entitled to vote in Salzburg?
All the Austrians who have their main residence in Salzburg on 26 March 2024 and being at least 16 years of age on the date of the election. Austrian citizens living abroad can vote by post, if they are listed (Auslandsösterreicher-Wählerevidenz). All other EU-citizens can only vote if they are listed (Unionsbürger-Wählerevidenz). Therefore registration no later than 26 March 2024 is required.  

Where is my votinglocation?
The location is called apolling station. In the city of Salzburg there are 153 different polling stations. You can find yours at www.stadt-salzburg.at/wahllokalsuche from beginning of may.

How do I know if I am entitled to vote?
You can find this information in an announcement (Haus-Kundmachung), a sheet of paper fixed at the entry of your residence by Österreichische Post AG. You can find the electoral register at the Electoral Office (Wahlamt). There you can check from april 19 to 25 if you are entitled to vote.   

Where is my polling station?
Approximately 3 weeks before election day you will get an official information (Wahlinformation).
In this information you will find your polling station. You can also get the information from the announcement in your residence or at www.stadt-salzburg.at/wahllokalsuche from beginning of may.

Which documents do I need for voting?
Please show your identity card with photograph or passport at the polling station.

How can I vote?
First you must provide proof of your identity at the polling station. Then you will get a blue envelope and a ballot form. Go into the voting booth. Vote on the ballot form. Place the ballot into the envelope. Put the envelope into the voting box. 

If you need assistance, somebody can accompany you into the voting booth. This must be authorized by the electoral commission in your polling station. 

Voting is voluntary and secret, that means:

• You can choose any party.
• Nobody watches you while voting.
• don´t have to tell anybody which party you voted for.

Postal voting
You are not in Salzburg on the date of the election?
You cannot visit your polling station, e.g. because of health reasons?
Then you can do postal voting with a so-called Wahl-Karte.
If you have the Wahl-Karte in your hands you can go to any polling station in Austria. Or you can send the Wahl-Karte through the postal service. You will find the address on the Wahl-Karte.

How can I apply for a Wahl-Karte?
You can apply for a Wahl-Karte by different ways; e.g. online www.stadt-salzburg.at/wahlkarte; by 5 June 2024 latest.
You can also get the Wahl-Karte at Schloss Mirabell at the official office hours (Mo – Thu 7.30 -16, Fr 7.30 – 13h. Please consider that office hours on 7 June 2024 will end at 12h.

Please note:
If youvote in your polling station, you do not need a Wahl-Karte. But if you have already ordered a Wahl-Karte, you have to bring it to the polling station.  

Distance voting
You have already received the Wahl-Karte?
Vote for your party on the ballot paper. Place the ballot paper into the envelope. Seal the envelope. Place the envelope into the white envelope (Wahl-Karte). Sign the Wahl-Karte and seal it.
Send the Wahl-Karte to Bezirkswahl-Behörde. The Wahl-Karte must reach the Bezirkswahl-Behörde by 9 June 2024. You can also bring ityourself or by courier to the next polling station.

Voting with Wahl-Karte in a polling station:
Do not fill in the Wahl-Karte at home. Go to any polling station in Austria on the day of the election. Give the Wahl-Karte to the election supervisor. Then vote for your party in the voting booth.   

Voting at a special voting commission
Are you ill for a longer time or do you have to stay in bed?
Are you unable to go to the polling station?
In this case you can apply for a special election commission to visit you at your residence. You have to apply for this at the Electoral Office. Please call 0662/8072 3536
