Theater / Tanz

Particular attention is paid to contemporary and experimental productions by young artists who dare innovative ways and formats in outdoor production.

The two biggest stages with their own ensembles in the city are the Salzburg Landestheater and Schauspielhaus Salzburg. Along with the OFF Theater (OFF Theatre) and the children’s theatre Toihaus with their small ensemble, a considerable number of other independent theatre groups and other facilities / venues are available with a wide variety of theatre subjects and formats being covered.

The Salzburger Festspiele (Salzburg Festival), SommerSZENE (Summer scene) and the Salzburger Sommertheater (Salzburg Summer Theatre) form the focus of events in July / August. The Winterfest (winter festival) in December brings quality circus type productions to the stage and also provides the opportunity for other performances.

More regularly recorded venues for theatre productions are the Kleine Theater (Little Theatre), ARGEkultur Salzburg (the largest autonomous cultural centre outside Salzburg city), the ' republic ' (with regular events throughout the year) and the TriBühne Lehen. These and the many other places enrich the theatre scene in the city with their productions, organized by the many independent groups. In addition, there are several commercially operated venues such as Braugewölbe, Gwandhaus, the OVAL, the Salzburg Marionette Theater, and many more.

In addition, numerous theatre projects not regularly producing outdoor groups or combinations (directing, acting etc) bring productions to the stage every year.
